Position Overview:
The Head Women’s Basketball Coach will be responsible for leading the women's basketball program at Talladega College. This includes overseeing all aspects of the program, including recruitment, coaching, player development, team management, and program administration. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in coaching, a commitment to student-athlete success both on and off the court, and the ability to foster a positive and competitive team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
•    Coaching and Player Development:
o    Lead and manage all practices, competitions, and team activities.
o    Develop and implement game strategies, drills, and training sessions to enhance team performance.
o    Evaluate and assess individual players’ strengths and areas for improvement.
o    Foster teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship while focusing on the personal and athletic development of each student-athlete.
•    Recruiting and Talent Identification:
o    Identify, evaluate, and recruit talented student-athletes to the women's basketball program.
o    Build and maintain relationships with high school coaches, AAU programs, and scouting organizations.
o    Ensure all recruits meet academic and athletic eligibility requirements.
•    Team and Program Management:
o    Organize team schedules, including practices, competitions, and team events.
o    Maintain records for all players, including academic and athletic performance.
o    Enforce discipline and maintain high standards for conduct, both on and off the court.
o    Collaborate with athletic trainers and support staff to monitor player health and fitness.
•    Administrative and Budgetary Duties:
o    Oversee the annual budget for the women's basketball program.
o    Manage equipment, travel, and other logistical aspects of the program.
o    Ensure compliance with NAIA or relevant governing body regulations.
o    Report to the Director of Athletics and collaborate with other athletic department staff on program goals and progress.
•    Community Engagement and Public Relations:
o    Promote the women’s basketball program within the college, alumni community, and local area.
o    Represent the program at university functions, media appearances, and community events.
o    Engage with supporters, alumni, and fans to foster a positive image of the program.
•    Academic Success:
o    Ensure that all student-athletes balance academic responsibilities with athletic commitments.
o    Monitor academic progress and provide guidance and resources to assist student-athletes in achieving their academic goals.
o    Promote a culture of academic excellence and personal development.
Qualifications:
•    Education:
o    Bachelor’s degree required (master’s preferred) in Sports Management, Physical Education, or a related field.
•    Experience:
o    Proven experience as a head coach or assistant coach in women’s basketball at the collegiate, professional, or elite High school level.
o    Demonstrated success in recruiting, developing athletes, and coaching at a competitive level.
o    A strong understanding of the NAIA (or other relevant governing body) rules and regulations.
•    Skills and Abilities:
o    Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
o    Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
o    Knowledge of strength and conditioning programs, injury prevention, and sport-specific training.
o    Ability to manage a team and foster a positive, motivated, and disciplined environment.
o    Proficient in technology used for coaching (e.g., video analysis, statistics software, etc.).
